GOOD TO KNOW

Durations, without calendar guesswork.

Enter decimal hours as a number: 1.5 h means 90 minutes. Months, years and time-zone changes need calendar dates, so this converter uses fixed intervals.

Calculation details & precision

Time conversions use seconds as the base unit. A minute is 60 seconds, an hour is 3,600 seconds and a day here is a fixed interval of 86,400 seconds. A week is 7 such days; a fortnight is 14 days. Calendar months, years and time-zone changes are not part of these calculations.

Automatic displays up to 12 significant digits. Choose 2, 4 or 6 decimal places in Precision for a shorter result. Displayed results are rounded; very large or small values use scientific notation.

Common questions

Does 1.5 hours mean 1 hour and 50 minutes?

No. The decimal part is a fraction of an hour: 0.5 × 60 = 30 minutes. So 1.5 hours is 1 hour and 30 minutes, or 90 minutes.

Why are months and years not listed?

Calendar months have different lengths, and years may contain 365 or 366 days. Converting a specific calendar interval requires start and end dates, rather than a single fixed factor.

Is a day always 24 hours here?

Yes. This converter treats a day as a fixed duration of 86,400 seconds. A local calendar day can differ when daylight saving time changes; those date and time-zone effects are not calculated.

Can I enter a value such as 01:30?

Use a number rather than a clock format: enter 1.5 with Hours selected, or 90 with Minutes selected. A signed value is accepted for a signed duration.
