How text to speech works here
This tool uses the speech synthesis built into your browser and operating system, so there is nothing to install and no account to create. Your text is split into short parts and read one after another, which keeps long passages from cutting off. The available voices and their quality depend on your device: phones and recent Windows, macOS and ChromeOS systems usually offer several natural voices in many languages. The tool plays the sound through your speakers and cannot save it as an audio file.
Word counter →Common questions
Is this text to speech free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no character limit beyond 20,000 per reading. It uses the voices already on your device.
Why are there so few voices, or none in my language?
The list comes from your browser and operating system. Install more voices in your system settings (for example in Windows Settings under Time and language, Speech) and reload this page.
Can I download the audio as an MP3?
No. Browsers can play synthesized speech but do not let a web page record it. Saving audio needs a server-based service, which this private, on-device tool does not use.
Why does the voice sound different on another device?
Each device ships its own voices. The same text sounds different on Chrome, Safari, Android and iPhone.
Is my text sent anywhere?
This page never uploads your text. Some voices, marked with *, are processed online by the browser vendor, so choose a voice without a * for sensitive text.
