Morse code, binary and hex

Morse code writes letters and digits as short and long signals, dots and dashes. In this translator letters are separated by a space and words by a slash. Binary and hexadecimal show the bytes of your text: each character becomes one or more bytes, written as 8 binary digits or 2 hex digits. The text is read as UTF-8, so letters outside the basic Latin alphabet and emoji work in binary and hex. Morse has no standard codes for most of those characters, so accents are removed and other characters are skipped and listed. Choose Code to text to decode, or use the result as input to translate it straight back.

Common questions

How do I write a space between words in Morse code?

Use a slash between words, like ... --- ... / .... .. You can also use three spaces when decoding.

Can I type dots and dashes with other characters?

Yes. When decoding, the dot character and the en dash or minus sign are read as dot and dash.

Why is the Morse sound not playing?

Your browser may block sound until you press the button, or the device may be muted. Press Play sound again and check the volume.

Does binary work for any language?

Yes. Text is converted as UTF-8, so Cyrillic, accented letters and emoji become several bytes each.

Is my text uploaded?

No. Everything is translated in your browser.
