How Google decides what to show

Google does not cut titles and descriptions by characters but by pixel width, so wide letters such as W and M use more space than i or l. This tool measures your text the way a browser does with Arial, the font Google uses in results. Google may still rewrite a title or description if it thinks another text fits the search better, so treat this as a close guide, not a guarantee.

Common questions

What is the best title length?

Keep it under about 600 pixels, which is usually 50 to 60 characters. Put the main keyword near the start.

What is the best meta description length?

Around 150 to 160 characters on desktop and a bit less on mobile. Pixel width matters more than the character count.

Will Google always show my description?

No. Google often rewrites it to match the search. A clear, relevant description still raises the chance it is used.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Everything is measured in your browser and nothing leaves the page.
