Where the exchange rates come from
Rates come from Frankfurter, an open data service that collects daily reference rates published by central banks and other official sources. They are mid-market reference rates, updated once a day, so they will differ from what a bank, card or exchange office charges, which add a margin and fees. Use them to compare, plan and understand price changes, not as an offer to trade.
Percentage calculator →Common questions
How often are the rates updated?
Once a day. The page shows the date of the rate it used, so you always know how fresh it is.
Why is my bank's rate different?
These are mid-market reference rates. Banks, card networks and exchange offices add a margin or a fee, so the rate you get is usually a little worse.
Can I see an old exchange rate?
Yes. Pick a date back to 1 January 1999. For weekends and holidays the closest earlier rate is used, and the page says so.
What happened to the Bulgarian lev?
Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026. The lev is fixed to the euro at 1.95583 leva per euro, which is also used for older conversions in this tool where the data feed has no lev quote.
