Plan the cost before you drive
Enter the distance, how much fuel your car uses and the price at the pump to see the fuel for a trip, and split it between passengers. Consumption can be in litres per 100 km, km per litre or miles per gallon, US or UK. Use Fuel economy after a fill-up to find your car's real figure. The car list uses open data from the Dutch vehicle authority RDW: the official test figures of cars registered in the Netherlands, split by the period of first registration, with diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions marked. Real use is usually higher, and plug-in hybrids depend on how often they are charged, so treat the figures as a starting point.
Unit converters →Common questions
How is the fuel cost worked out?
The distance is multiplied by the fuel your car uses per kilometre to give the litres needed, then by the price per litre. Gallon prices and consumption figures are converted to litres first.
What is the difference between US and UK MPG?
A UK (imperial) gallon is about 4.55 litres and a US gallon is about 3.79 litres, so the same car shows a higher MPG on the UK scale. Choose the unit your car's figure is given in.
Where do I find my car's fuel consumption?
Use the figure from the manual or the trip computer, or measure it yourself with the Fuel economy tab. Real figures are usually higher than the official test numbers.
Does the round trip option change the fuel price?
No. It doubles the distance, so the fuel and the cost double too. Tolls and parking are added once, as you enter them.
How do I convert L per 100 km to MPG?
Divide 235.21 by the L per 100 km figure for US MPG, or 282.48 for UK MPG. For example 7 L per 100 km is about 33.6 US MPG. The Fuel economy tab does this for you.
