How time calculations work
Time is counted in base 60, so 1 hour 45 minutes plus 1 hour 30 minutes is 3 hours 15 minutes, not 2 hours 75 minutes. This calculator converts every duration to seconds, adds or subtracts them and then converts back to days, hours, minutes and seconds. It also shows the total as decimal hours, which is what most timesheets and payroll forms need: 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5 hours.
Date calculator →Common questions
How do I add hours and minutes?
Add the minutes first. If they reach 60 or more, carry whole hours over. Or enter each amount on its own line here and read the total.
How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours.
How do I calculate hours worked across midnight?
Use Time between. If the end time is earlier than the start time, it counts as the next day, so 22:00 to 06:30 is 8 hours 30 minutes.
Can I work with days as well?
Yes. Write durations such as 1d 4h. To count calendar days between dates, use the date calculator.
Is anything sent anywhere?
No. The calculation runs in your browser.
