Metronome●
Keep time with a clear beat. Watch the notes fall onto the line, tap a lane to shape the rhythm, and let the tempo rise by itself while you practise.
Set the tempo, then press Start. Tap a lane to make that beat louder, normal or silent.
Adds a second beat spread evenly across the same bar, for example 3 against 4. It has its own sound.

A metronome for practice, with the beat you choose
A metronome plays a steady beat so you can practise in time. Set the tempo in beats per minute, pick how many beats make a bar, and press Start. The first beat of each bar is an accent by default; tap a lane to make a beat louder, normal or silent, which is useful for odd bars such as 5, 7 or 9 beats. Subdivisions add quieter ticks between the beats for eighths, triplets or sixteenths. To build speed, switch on Speed up automatically and the tempo rises by the amount you choose every few bars until it reaches your top speed. The beat is scheduled with the browser audio clock, so it stays steady even when the page is busy.
Timer and stopwatch →Common questions
How accurate is the beat?
Each click is scheduled ahead of time on the browser audio clock, not by a timer that can drift, so the beat stays steady while you use other tabs. Very old or heavily loaded devices may still add a small delay between the sound and the falling note.
How do I use tap tempo?
Tap the button in time with a song or with your own playing. After two taps it works out the tempo from the average gap between the last few taps. Pause for two seconds and it starts again.
How do I play 5/4 or 7/8?
Choose the number of beats per bar (5 or 7). Tap the lanes to place accents where the groups start, for example an accent on beat 1 and beat 4 for a 7 beat bar grouped as 3 plus 4. For 7/8, set the tempo to the eighth note and keep subdivisions off.
What does Speed up automatically do?
It adds the number of BPM you choose after every set number of bars, until the top speed. You can change the tempo by hand at any time, and the count starts again from there.
Why is there no sound?
Check that the device is not muted and the volume setting is above zero. Browsers only allow sound after you press a button, so press Start once. On some phones the silent switch also mutes browser audio.
Is anything saved or sent?
No. The sound is generated in your browser and nothing leaves your device.
