Spacing changes run first, duplicate matching comes next, then blank-line handling. Basic cleanup keeps indentation and repeated nonblank lines. Reset options turns every transformation off. Apply to input and Clear text each offer one-step Undo.
Change letter case →Common questions
What does Basic cleanup do?
It trims trailing spaces and tabs, collapses repeated spaces inside each line, removes blank edge lines and keeps at most one blank line between paragraphs. Leading indentation, tabs inside a line, non-breaking spaces and repeated nonblank lines are otherwise retained.
How are duplicates compared?
Duplicate nonblank lines are compared after your selected spacing changes. The first occurrence is kept, and order is preserved. Matching is exact by default; Ignore letter case compares Unicode lowercase forms without changing the kept text. Blank lines are handled separately.
Will it damage code, poetry or a formatted table?
Spacing and blank lines can carry meaning. Review the preview before applying a cleanup. Basic cleanup preserves leading indentation, but changing internal spaces or blank lines may still affect formatting. Reset options lets you enable only the changes you need.
Does it remove emoji or invisible Unicode characters?
It does not remove zero-width joiners, combining marks or other invisible characters indiscriminately. Emoji and scripts that depend on those characters are retained. Converting non-breaking spaces is an explicit option.
How are lines and line breaks counted?
A line record contains its text and optional line-ending character. A final newline ends the last line; it does not add a phantom empty line. A separate empty line does count. Surviving line endings and the presence of a final newline are retained where possible.
Can I undo a cleanup?
Yes. Apply to input and Clear text retain the previous input for one-step Undo. Changing settings only updates the preview and keeps that Undo available. Typing a new edit or loading an example discards Undo. Nothing survives a reload.
